Biography

Dr Mark Craig MBBS, Dip RACOG, FRACGP, FACRRM, Grad Dip Musc Med, CIME. After graduating from UQ in 1979, Dr Craig spent 5 years training for rural general practice in Atherton, FNQ where his special interests were obstetrics and anaesthetics, in addition to running a busy solo private practice seeing 200 patients per week. In 1989, Dr Craig took up an academic post with The University of Queensland teaching rural medicine to both undergraduates and graduates, while continuing clinical practice in the various private hospital Emergency Departments in Brisbane between 1989 and 2001. He has authored and published 24 papers in rural medical education and procedural general practice (Surgery, Anaesthesia and Obstetrics). During this time he was also a Foundation Member of the RDAA and the Faculty of Rural Medicine of the RACGP, of which he was Foundation Censor, responsible for standards and assessment. Because Dr Craig had earlier conceptualised the establishment of ACRRM, he wrote the case for rural doctors to leave the RACGP and create ACRRM. He was a Foundation Fellow of the ACRRM, later becoming its Foundation Censor as well. Dr Craig retired from academia and medical politics to follow his interest in musculoskeletal medicine (MSM), which had grown since his days in solo rural practice. He continues to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has practised full-time in musculoskeletal medical practice since 2001. This year he launched My Medical Best Practice, a national advisory consultancy for doctors commencing in private general and specialist practice, The AMA Queensland Branch has recognised MMBP as a corporate partner.
