Overview

This hands-on session will assist participants in managing common ENT conditions that may frequently present in rural practice and in emergency. This small group practical workshop will cover management of : • Ear conditions such as wax management, otitis externa, foreign body, infected grommets or perforations, glue ear assessment and severity; • Nose conditions such as nose airway assessment, packing for epistaxis, nose cautery, nose foreign bodies or injury (e.g fracture); • Throat and neck conditions including e.g. Stridor, oesopohageal foreign body and indications for tonsillectomy. Maximum capacity : 20 participants only (2 hours)

Abstract

Biography

Dr. John Vorrath is an ENT Surgeon. His experience includes: Private E.N.T. practice in Geelong 1973 to 2005; Sessional E.N.T. Surgeon at Geelong Hospital 1973 to 2007; John was presented with 40 years' service award at the Royal Children's Hospital. His achievements are many and he established Audiology led clinic at RCH. This clinic sees and completely deals with children with middle ear problems of minor severity; He designed and implemented the first computer system for operating room activity and utilization at both RCH & Geelong Hospital; He was the recipient of the Australian Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Award for Distinguished Contribution to the Art and Science of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery in 2011; He invented and produced the Vorotek O Scope - Now used by almost 100% of Australian E.N.T.’s.; was Co developer of the Lumiview with Welch Allyn; Development and production of predecessors (Biotoscope & Voroscope) beginning in early 1970; Improved versions of wax rings, hooks, ear speculums & pneumatic attachments; Other inventions including a speculum holding system for stapes surgery. His aim has always been to provide users with products which enhance their capability for examination, instrumentation and procedures.
