‘Going Out’ - Adapting training models for the rural and remote workforce

3:55 PM - 4:25 PM

Abstract Overview

The presentation will explore the benefits of a hub and spoke obstetrics and gynaecology training project for rural and remote multi disciplinary health professionals delivered by the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Education and Training (OGET) program run from 9 OGET Australian regional referral centres to over 40 rural and remote centres. The presentation will also evaluate the impact of the project in facilitating access to localised training and therefore patient care.

These impacts include enhanced multi-disciplinary team preparedness, improved communication between rural services and regional referral centres, better accessibility of training for the predominantly female rural healthcare and rapid responses to emerging clinical challenges.

This will be achieved by a prospective mixed-methods evaluation study of the OGET program of over 40 Australian rural and remote centres (June 2022-May 2025). The methods will include pre- and post-training confidence assessments, structured participant feedback from over 50 standardized training sessions, and qualitative case evidence.
