What a load of CRP

5:05 PM - 5:35 PM

Abstract Overview

Sepsis is a severe and life threatening condition and the pathway from diagnosis to treatment is time sensitive. Traditionally blood cultures and CRP are used as key diagnostic indicators for sepsis but both are not without their limitations. This presentation aims to explore the usefulness of Procalcitonin as a biomarker of sepsis in acute and critical care settings, not just from a diagnostic point of view but more importantly improving patient outcomes with more sensitive monitoring of disease burden and antimicrobial stewardship.

Biography

Tate is a medical laboratory scientist specialising in general chemistry and immunoassay at the Royal Brisbane and Women's hospital. He is passionate about all things chemistry and education both clinical and scientific. While early in his career, he aims to connect the lab to the bedside where both scientists and clinician use a collaborative approach to diagnostics to improve patient care.
