Communicating with HEART

Abstract Overview

This workshop, based on a module from ACRRM's new HEART course, focuses on enhancing communication skills tailored for rural clinicians. It goes beyond closed-loop communication by providing practical strategies aimed at empowering participants.

The workshop covers various essential aspects. It begins by addressing power dynamics and their impact on communication, helping clinicians navigate hierarchical structures within teams. The going on to help guide participants in developing clear boundaries and expectations to cultivate mutual respect and emphasizing a supportive follower role fosters collaboration and shared decision-making.

Furthermore, the workshop will also cover communication with connection and delve into managing ego in communication. Participants will explore handling difficult situations such as critical incidents with sensitivity. Effective feedback techniques for giving and receiving feedback will also be explored.

Overall this workshop equips rural clinicians with tools to support them in their role and enhance patient care and teamwork.
