Transgender Care Over Time: Monitoring, Pathology Results, Screening and Management Planning

Abstract Overview

The holistic and evidence-based healthcare of transgender, gender diverse and non-binary (TGDNB) peoples is an emerging field, affecting all aspects of healthcare, with greater implications for those working in resource-poor environments. In rural and remote contexts, with limited access to specialised services, the onus of care falls to us in primary care. Significant attention is being invested into assessment of TGDNB patients and initiating gender-affirming hormone therapy and care, but then, what next? How do we in primary care support our TGDNB patients to live healthy and productive lives?
This workshop will focus on practical aspects of longitudinal care for TGDNB patients, including monitoring therapy, interpreting pathology results and what to expect from these on treatment, preventative care and screening tasks where these differ from the cisgender population, and construction of effective general practice management plans incorporating these factors. The workshop will include case discussion, and useful resources to support clinicians will be identified throughout.
