Details
With increasing numbers of Australian General Practice Training registrars nationally, and 50% of these training in rural areas, the need for high quality supervision in rural general practices is great. High quality supervision requires management of the medico-legal aspects to help mitigate risks to supervisors, registrars and patients. However, there is a general lack of awareness of and confusion over, the medico-legal aspects of GP registrar supervision. This workshop clarifies these medico-legal issues and provides practical suggestions on how supervisors and registrars can be supported and protected. This session will use multiple interactive learning strategies including: • small and large group discussions; • case study exploration in breakout groups; • quiz using Turning Point® with interactive Keypads; • Q&A. By the end of this workshop, participants should be able to : • Explain medico-legal issues associated with supervision; • Use a checklist to accurately cover supervisors’ and registrars’ responsibilities as part of registrar orientation; • Review or develop policies around procedures undertaken by registrars in GP placements.
