Details

This workshop has been developed a Rural Oncologist in South Australia. Cancer has become the number one cause of death in Australia even displacing cardiovascular causes, and knowing one in three patients will be diagnosed with a malignancy. Most effective way is of course, prevention, both primary and secondary, with approaches in primary care becoming necessary as addition to specialist services, based on the National Cancer Prevention Policy. As curative therapy is now becoming more common, patients need long-term follow up with shared care models, and GP in rural Australia is specifically well placed to provide a holistic and multidisciplinary approach. Again, specific training and upskilling is often needed for GPs to feel confident in such care. Through discussion of the topic, case scenarios, and small group work, GPs should find the basic knowledge and skills, and how to find out further information to provide care for their patients. Presenter/Facilitator : Dr Dagmara Poprawski, Rural Oncologist, SA
