This workshop offers an introduction and instruction on the use of Ultrasound in Critical Care for the rural generalist with minimal experience in using ultrasound in practice. There will also be the opportunity for the more experienced users to ensure their use and understanding of ultrasound is current. The workshop will cover the basic physics of ultrasound and knobology; the general uses of ultrasound in critical care; how to use ultrasound for nerve blocks, eFAST, AAA, intro to Quick look Echo, vascular access, detection of pneumothorax, etc. It also includes the opportunity for a "Special Request station" to be included enabling participants who have specific queries answered, or those who require particular skills be further demonstrated and practiced with guidance from an experienced tutor. A major feature of this workshop is the 'hands-on' practice and tuition by highly experienced clinical application specialists, sonographers and clinicians. The practical tuition stations are enhanced by using live patient/models. Participant numbers are strictly limited to 20 for maximum learning benefit. The course is accredited for ACRRM PDP points and Procedural Grant claim for 1 day against Emergency Medicine or Anaesthetics component: Clinician presenter : Dr Patrick Feeny, Emergency Physician, Royal Adelaide Hospital; Sonographer tutors : Jo Douglas, Kate Gratton and SonoSite Clinical Manager, Lynette Hassall; Equipment support : Sonosite Clinical Sales specialist SA/NT, Bronwyn Aberline.
