Details

The need for ACP need is growing given Australia’s ageing population and the rise in dementia and chronic disease as causes of death in Australia. In this context, planning for decisions about a person’s future health care and treatment is important and GPs play a crucial role in this. The Australian Government, through the Decision Assist Program is funding ACP and palliative care education for GPs and aged care staff across Australia (www.decisionassist.org.au). This practical interactive workshop, will address the need for specialised education in ACP for GPs and will include : • What is ACP, what are its benefits and how is it relevant to my patients? • What are the ethics and legalities of ACP and how do I incorporate them into good medical practice? • When and how do I discuss ACP with my patients? • What are the MBS item numbers that can be used for ACP. Presenters : AProf William Silvester and Dr Alison Sands, Decision Assist.
