DR ROGER SEXTON lives and works in our host State of South Australia and has been a rural procedural GP for over 30 years. His interest in doctors’ health began in 1997 in response to distress amongst rural colleagues and he went on to initiate a rural GP support program in SA as well as play a central role in the establishment of the unique health program for doctors and medical students in South Australia, Doctors’ Health SA, in 2010. He is the inaugural Medical Director of this program.
He has been a past Presiding Member of the Medical Board of SA, as well as a member of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee from 2010 to 2013. He is currently a board director of medical indemnity insurer MIGA, Chair of its Risk Management Committee and a member of its Claims Committee. He is also a current board director of both NPS MedicineWise and the newly established AMA subsidiary, Doctors’ Health Services Pty Ltd.
He has had a long standing interest in medical education and enjoys tutoring clinical skills at Adelaide University Medical School. He has just completed his Adelaide MBA.
His clinical work includes working as a part-time rural GP locum in remote SA and a medical consultant in executive health. He is married with two adult children and enjoys sheep farming, music, theatre, art and travel.
