Details

Australia has one of the world’s highest incidence of mesothelioma (asbestos-related lung cancer) per capita, with numbers expected to rise between now and 2020. Approximately 60% of homes built before 1985 contain asbestos, and the risk of lung cancer is 50-90 times higher with a combined exposure of asbestos and smoking. With the expected incidence of mesothelioma in Australia yet to peak the role of health professionals in early recognition of symptoms and referral pathway management is vital. This educational workshop for primary health professionals will focus on asbestos awareness and managing the presentation of a patient with asbestos exposure and/or early symptoms. The session aims to give you the knowledge which will inform evidence-based diagnosis and management of ARLD. Data collected from previous workshops has also shown increased development of skills to ensure appropriate assessment and care of patients with ARLD. The workshop will improve your understanding of the health dangers of asbestos risk and exposure in the community and aims to improve the understanding of ARLD. Lung Foundation Australia and Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency run national asbestos-related lung disease (ARLD) workshops for health professionals. Lung Foundation Australia enables health professionals to access the best practice information and resources supports the presentation of this session on their behalf. Presented by : AProf Hbertus Jersmann; Dr Nico van Zandwijk; Prof Doug Henderson ; Ms Judy Powell
